Q&A: As a freelance writer, how do you get paid for your time?

Aside from being paid for research and writing time, there are other things (meetings, hour long phone calls, interviews, etc) that go along with freelance writing. All of these aspects take time, which an “on the clock” job would pay you for. So how, as a freelancer, do you ensure that you aren’t giving away precious time? For (a specific) example, I have recently agreed to edit some eBooks for a man who calls everyday and takes up at least an hour to an hour and a half with each call. I don’t have that…
