My boss sent me a 1099, but I have pay stubs that say I paid taxes. Did he pay taxes? What should I do?
I worked as a secretary for a franchise owner for about 2 months. He paid me in cash, but took out taxes. I have pay stubs from every week saying he took out taxes. Today I got a 1099 in the mail from him with an income about $1,000 lower than what I actually made.
I was not sub-contract or freelance. I worked a regular schedule, 40 hours a week. I was paid an hourly rate.
I insisted he pay me in cash because the checks he did write bounced. I eventually had to leave the job because…
anyone know any good freelance writing and poetry or quote sites? ive tried a few and they’re spam, i would like one kinda like the old one i used to use but no one ever goes on that one anymore ever! and im like going crazy trying to find a good site where i can get feedback, comments, rating, contests, and read other writers work.
I’m a freelance web designer. In November 2008, I designed a site for a club team at my college and the coach promised I would receive all of my “work-study” money in exchange for doing the site at that time. I would start receiving my work-study payments in January when the new semester starts and it would total out to be about $1250.
It’s time to start my own business. I have a salaried full-time job at a TV station in marketing, as a sales/research coordinator, where I’ve worked for 4 years. There’s a high turnover rate in our department (due to the department head, who’s a combo of the boss from the movie “Office Space” and the pointy-haired boss in the Dilbert comics).
I was offered a job last week and need to determine a fair salary. Originally the job was a freelance position offering 30 hours a week in print design work (paid on an hourly rate). The person who had this job was responsible for the design and layout of a 16 page magazine, light ad sales, and other design work such as brochures. I do not know how much this person was paid, but I do know he had the time to take other freelance jobs on the side with other businesses.
I need to find a SIMPLE way to figure out taxes if I am self-employeed. For federal, state & SSI. Is it too much to ask to find a place that just gives you the formula’s and definations for all three? I know my local tax is a flat rate % so I’m not concerned about that. I got more confussed than ever when I “googled” self employment. Thanks for whatever help you can give. All I want to do is babysit for a friend & do some freelance writing so I need to a program for my taxes.
i have been asked to write some copy for a brochure and have no idea what to charge…
Its a Veterinarian office in California. Extensive research, using keywords, wants to sell products, they would keep all rights. Background is in writing and I’ve written many other content articles successfully. Before I was a freelance contractor and this time I was offered the position of a full time writer.

I am a graphic designer. I responded to an emailed freelance opportunity involving t-shirt designs. I usually send contracts but I didn’t this time (stupid). This is what he wrote in his first email:
