The basic format of this book is:
Chord Sequence I IV V: C F G
‘over you’, ’spanish stroll’……..
but there is neither staff nor tab of the songs.
and even worse, there are always suddenly pages of chords without any context.
Maybe the author should read “How to teach students by books”

It’s not a guitar method neither a complete songwriting book. Perhaps it’s both, but I find it quite boring and not focusing.

A painter uses a canvas, a songwriter uses chords. This book offers much insight to song structure. Whether it be constructing your own, or disecting your favorite songs, this book offers valuable insight. It is not intended for the beginner student, but intermediate through advanced players will find it priceless!

A lot of technical issues covered. The outstanding thing about this book (& by outstanding I mean the thing that stands out, not the thing that is excellent) is that the author wants to tell you every song that fits into each and every category that he mentions. Example: for the chord sequence I, IV, VI, V there are ten examples in contemporay music and He wants to name each and every one of them, then he will do the same thing for chord sequence I, VI, IV, V. Etcetera ad nauseum! This is a thin book; It could be a lot thinner and convey the same amount of (interesting) information.

if you are a serious student of guitar, and especially if you want to write music and/or lyrics. It is a must have.
I especially applaud the manner in which he presents music theory. I have had several teachers but none of them put it as succinctly or clearly as Rikky Rooksby.
Great book.
