How much should I be charging hourly for freelance with 3 years of sold print, agency & freelance experience?
I’m a designer who graduated in o5′ from Columbus College of Art & Design, with 3 years of solid print experience and knowledge in over 12 software programs. I want to make sure I’m not selling myself short or that I could be making more money. It’s hard to find an average medium price so I figured I would try people who may have more experience in the field than I. Any GOOD advice would be very appreciated.
I have read on one chart (writing assistance, inc) that a designer for 5+ years, the low rate is $45, ave. $70, and high is $90+.
Please help asap! Thanks!

Well, you have to think of it this way. At the end of the year, taxes are going to take close to HALF of what you make in freelance (of course you make some of that up by deducting supplies, etc. keep those receipts!). So don’t feel guilty charging people what you deserve.
$35-$45 is pretty good for someone with 3 years experience (that’s about what I charged). I’d say you might be able to push it to $60 if it’s a difficult job, and you’re using some difficult programs.
Also, a lot of clients want to know how much for the job, not how much per hour. If that’s the case, make sure you have something clear in writing about how many rounds of changes you’re willing to do before you start charging them over what you quoted for the initial job. Clients are notorious for making changes, and more changes, and then some silly changes, and then stupid changes…you get the idea ;).
