How much should a freelance writer in Kansas City charge a client to write copy for a website? ?
I’m a copywriter in Kansas City who’s doing research for her first freelance gig. I’m wondering what I should charge as a fair/standard rate (for the midwest) and I’m hoping for any another other tips freelance writers might have…
e.g. What should I watch out for? Who are the best types of clients to work with?

Aloha
I wrote this report about setting fees. I haven’t updated it in a while, but the basics still apply. Check it out at

Of course, the fees for someone in Kansas City vary from those of someone in New York City or Los Angeles. It also depends on your experience and how long you’ve been a freelance copywriter.
The best kinds of clients to work with are the ones who understand the value of hiring a freelance copywriter and you can develop a good working relationship with.
Watch out for those who “nickel & dime” you – saying if you charge them a lower fee the first time they promise they’ll give you a lot more work. Follow your gut. If something doesn’t feel right, there’s a reason.
